Ingredients
Pressure Cook Dal
- 1 Cup Split Bengal Gram / Chana dal
- 2-3 Cups Water / Pani
- ½ Tsp Salt to taste / Namak
- 1 Tbsp Oil /Tel
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric / Haldi
For Cooking
- 2 Tbsp Oil / Tel
- 1 Inch Cinnamon / Dalchini
- 2 Black Cardamom / Badi elaechi
- 2 Bayleaf / Tej patta
- 1 Tsp tsp Cumin / Zeera
- 1 Tsp Ginger / Adrakh paste
- 1 Tsp Garlic / Lasan paste
- 2 Medium Onion / Pyaz
- 2 Slit Chillies / Hari ya Lal mirch
- 2 Medium Tomatoes / Tamatar
- Salt to taste / Namak swad anusar
- ½-1 Tsp Red chilli powder
- 1 Tsp Coriander powder / Dhaniya
- ½ Tsp Turmeric / Haldi
- ½ Tsp Garam masala
- 2 Cup chopped Spinach / Palak
- 1 Tbsp chopped fresh Coriander / Dhaniya
- Some Butter cubes
Instructions
- Pressure cook Dal adding Water,Salt and Turmeric until it’s about 80% cooked.
- In a Kadai heat Oil.In the hot Oil keeping heat low add Dalchini,Badi elaechi,Tej patta and Zeera.
- Let spices roast in hot Oil for about 20-30 seconds.Then add Ginger-Garlic paste.Give it a stir and just within 20-30 seconds add Onions.
- Sauté over medium-high stirring occasionally till they turn golden brown.
- Now drop in chopped Tomatoes along with Salt.Continue sauting till the Tomatoes get mushy of soft.
- Next again putting heat low drop in the spices -Chilli powder, Turmeric, Coriander and Garam masala.
- Give a stir and within a minute add chopped Palak.Putting heat on medium -high,stir and cook till the Palak settles down.
- Now adding about 1/2-1 cup Water cover and cook the Palak on low for about 5-7 minutes.
- After this we will add the pressure cooked dal and then again cook it covered for another 5-7 minutes or until everything gets tender or soft.
- At last add some chopped fresh Coriander and Butter before serving.
Step by step how to make the Palak Chana Dal recipe
