Misal pav is a very famous spicy street food recipe from Maharashtra made using some basic ingredients easily available in your kitchen.

Ingredients:-  ( Serve 10 )

MASALA

  • 1 tsp Oil / Tal
  • 2 tsp Cumin / Zeera
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds / Dhaniya
  • 1/2 tbsp Pepper corn / Salut Kali mirch
  • 2 Anistar / Chakra phool
  • 8 Cloves / Loung
  • 12 Garlic cloves / Lasan
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds / Safad Til
  • 1/2 fresh grated Coconut / Nariyal
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon powder or 1 inch Cinnamon / Dalchini
  • 2 tsp Fennel powder or 1 tbsp Fennel seeds / Saunf
  • 3 tsp Red Kashmiri chilli powder / Kashmiri lal  mirch
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup Water / Pani

PRESSURE COOKING

  • 1 cup sprout Moth beans / Matki
  • 1/2 cup sprout Green gram / Hara moong
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cup Water / Pani
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric / Haldi

MISAL

  • 4 tbsp Mustard Oil / Sarson Tal
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin / Zeera
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds / Rai
  • 2 Chopped Onion / Pyaaz
  • 10-12 Curry leaves / Kadi Patta
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste / Adrakh
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste / Lasan
  • 3 tsp Red Kashmiri chilli powder / Kashmiri lal  mirch
  • 1 cup Tomato/ Tamatar puree
  • 1-5 litre Water / Panic
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery / Gud
  • 1 tbsp Green Coriander / Hara dhaniya

SERVING

  • Chopped Onion / Pyaaz
  • Bombay mix or Farsan
  • Bread roll bun / Pav

Method :-

  1. To make Masala Ii hot Oil roast all the spices over a low heat for 2-3 minutes and then add Coconut.
  2. Continue sauting till Coconut starts changing colour.Add red Chilli powder and within 30 secounds put off the stove.Let it to cool down.
  3. Grind it into a paste adding Water.
  4. Adding all the ingredients pressure cook Moth beans and Green gram for 1 whistle.
  5. Now in final stage to make Misal heat Oil adding all the whole spices over low heat and let them to crackle for few secounds.
  6. Next adding Onion sauté till translucent.Add Ginger-Garlic paste and curry leaves.Continue sauting for couple of minutes before adding Tomato.
  7. Keep on sauting till tomato changes colour and Oil starts oozing.
  8. Add Water,Salt and Jaggery.
  9. After it starts boiling put to simmer add Coriander,close the lid and put off the stove.
  10. Give it a standing time of 10-15 minutes.
  11. Serve hot.

Tips :-

  • Instead of using Mustard Oil you can use any other edible Oil.
