Make street style momos at home tandoori or fried,with gravy or without gravy.Options are too many let’s begin making this delicious healthy treat to cheat.
Ingredients:- ( Serve 14 )
DOUGH
- 1 cup Wheat flour / Atta
- 1 tbsp Oil
- Salt to taste
- 100 ml Water
FILLING
- 300 gm Cottage cheese / Paneer
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 big Onion
- 1 tsp Garlic & Ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp Green chilli paste
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1/2 tsp Mint powder / Pudena or Fresh Mint
- 2 tbsp Mayonnaise or Fresh cream
OIL for frying
TANDOORI MASALA
- 4 tbsp Thick curd
- 3 tbsp smoked Mustard Oil / Sarso tail
- 3 tbsp Besan / Gram flour or Roasted gram flour / Sattu
- 1 tbsp Dry Fenugreek leaves / Kasoori methi
- 1/2 tsp each Ginger & Garlic paste
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg powder / Jaayaphal
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- 1/2 tsp Kashmiri Red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin / Zeera powder
- 1/4 tsp Cloves powder / Loung
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder / Dalchini
- 1/4 tsp Green cardamom powder
- 1/2 tsp Chaat masala
- 1/4 tsp Black salt
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp chopped green Coriander / Dhaniya
GRAVY
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 big Onion
- 1/2 tsp green chilli paste
- Salt to taste
- 4 tbsp Fresh cream
- 1 tsp Soya sauce
- 2 tbsp Tomato ketchup
Method:–
- In flour mix Oil and Salt till the flour turns flaky.
- Add water and knead into a stiff dough.
- Keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
- For filling in hot melted butter add Onion to sauté till golden brown.
- Add Garlic,Ginger & Chilli.Saute for a minute or two and then add crumbled Cottage cheese.
- Add Salt,Pepper,Mint.and Mayonnaise which gives the filling a nice creamy taste .
- Mix and cook for about 2 minutes.
- Divide dough in small portions and spread out in small round sheets like we make for puri’s with thin edges but little thick in centre.
- Place a teaspoon of filling over it and shape it as modak’s or you can give them any shape of your choice.
- Fry the Momos in hot Oil till they get firm or start to get brown.This will take you hardly 1-2 minutes.
- Mix all the ingredients of Tandoori masala in a bowl and completely marinate the momo’s in it for an hour.
- Shallow fry till crispy brown using a non stick vessel adding couple of tablespoons Oil or bake at 220°C for 15-20 minutes.
- For Momo gravy in hot Oil sauté thinly sliced Onion till translucent.
- Add the remaining ingredients one by one.
- Keep cooking for couple of minutes and gravy is ready.
- Fully coat the momos with gravy and serve hot adding little fresh cream or Mayonnaise over it.
Tips :-
- To make Modak shaped momos pleat the edge of made puri and stick it using water.
- For gravy you can use any mix of veggies besides using Onion like thinly sliced capsicum,carrot and Reddish.
